Heart disease, the number one cause of death for women: How Transcendental Meditation can help

Most women don't even know that heart disease is the number one killer women in America. More education about the risk factors and prevention is needed. Many  life style factors, such as poor diet and lack of exercise, contribute to the disease, but experts agree that stress underlies them all. That is why the National Institutes of Health has granted over $20 million to study the effects of the Transcendental Meditation program on the prevention and treatment of heart disease, hypertension, and stroke.

The twice-daily TM practice has been found to reduce activation of the sympathetic nervous system—which, in turn, dilates the blood vessels and reduces stress hormones, such as adrenaline, and cortisol, providing stress relief.

Having a natural do-it-yourself stress buster technique like meditation can help women have healthier hearts and more balanced stress free lives.
